Understanding Your Score

Answerability

Whether AI systems can extract direct, citable answers from your content.

Overview

What Answerability Measures

Answerability evaluates how easy it is for AI to pull specific, quotable answers from your site. When someone asks ChatGPT "What does [your product] cost?" or "How do I set up [your tool]?", can the AI find a clear answer on your site?

This dimension measures the presence and quality of answer-ready content. Sites that provide direct, factual responses to common questions are far more likely to be cited in AI-generated answers than sites that bury the same information in marketing copy or long-form prose.

Dimensions

Key Dimensions

Answerability evaluates five dimensions of how well your content serves as a source for AI-generated answers. The dimension names shown below are for SaaS/software sites. Other site types (e-commerce, news, marketplaces, etc.) see adapted dimension names tailored to their content patterns, but the underlying evaluation is similar.

  • label Definition Clarity — Can AI clearly explain what your product or service does in one sentence? If your homepage takes three paragraphs of marketing language to explain your product, AI systems will struggle to extract a concise definition.
  • checklist Feature & Integration Lists — Are capabilities presented as structured, extractable lists? AI systems can easily parse bullet-point feature lists and integration directories, but struggle with features described only in narrative paragraphs.
  • table_chart Pricing & Comparison Tables — Is pricing data in table format that AI can read and compare? HTML tables with plan names, prices, and feature comparisons are highly extractable. Pricing hidden behind "Contact Sales" forms is invisible to AI.
  • quiz FAQ & Support Content — Do you have FAQ sections, help articles, or knowledge bases that provide direct answers? Dedicated Q&A content is the most answer-ready format possible — each question-answer pair maps directly to how users query AI systems.
  • format_list_numbered How-To Content — Are there step-by-step guides and tutorials AI can relay as instructions? When users ask "How do I..." questions, AI systems look for numbered steps and clear procedural content they can present as actionable guidance.
Troubleshooting

Common Issues

These are the most frequent reasons for a low Answerability score.

  • warning No dedicated FAQ section or knowledge base — Without explicit Q&A content, AI systems must infer answers from general page content, which is less reliable and less likely to result in your site being cited.
  • visibility_off Pricing hidden behind "Contact Sales" forms — If your pricing is not publicly visible in HTML, AI cannot include it in comparisons or answer pricing questions about your product. Users asking AI for pricing will get answers from competitors who publish theirs.
  • campaign Marketing language instead of specific facts — Feature descriptions that say "revolutionary AI-powered solution" give AI nothing to cite. Specific descriptions like "automates invoice processing with 99.2% accuracy" are directly quotable.
  • dns Documentation on a separate subdomain — If your help docs live on docs.example.com rather than example.com/docs, they won't be included in the audit's sitemap analysis. AURA does account for documentation that exists on the same domain (e.g., /docs/, /help/, /support/ paths found in your sitemap), but content on a different subdomain is outside the audit scope. Your report will flag when documentation subdomains are detected. Run a separate audit on that subdomain for a full picture.
  • videocam How-to content in video format only — Video tutorials are great for users but invisible to AI text parsing. If your setup guides and tutorials exist only as videos without text transcripts, AI cannot extract the steps.
Action Plan

How to Improve

Follow these steps to improve your Answerability score, ordered by typical impact.

  1. Add an FAQ section with 20-30 common questions
Create a dedicated FAQ page or add FAQ sections to your key pages. Write clear, direct answers to the questions your customers actually ask. Each answer should be self-contained and quotable.
  2. Put pricing in HTML tables
Present your pricing in proper HTML table format, not as images or JavaScript-only components. Include plan names, prices, billing cycles, and feature comparisons that AI can read and compare.
  3. Write feature descriptions with specific facts
Replace vague marketing language with concrete, factual descriptions AI can cite. Instead of "best-in-class performance," write "processes 10,000 transactions per second with 99.9% uptime."
  4. Create text-based how-to guides
For every video tutorial, create a companion text guide with numbered steps. AI systems can extract and relay text instructions but cannot parse video content.
  5. Build a comprehensive knowledge base
Create a help center or knowledge base on your main domain covering setup, configuration, troubleshooting, and common workflows. Structure articles with clear headings and direct answers.
FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why is my Answerability low when I have a blog? expand_more
Blog posts often use narrative or editorial writing styles that are harder for AI to extract specific answers from. Answerability rewards content that provides direct, factual answers — such as FAQ sections, pricing tables, feature lists, and step-by-step guides. A blog with opinion pieces or long-form essays may score lower than a concise FAQ page or knowledge base.
  • Do FAQ pages need Schema.org markup to help Answerability? expand_more
Schema.org FAQPage markup is evaluated under the Extractability dimension, not Answerability. Answerability focuses on whether your content contains clear, direct answers regardless of markup. That said, adding FAQ schema is always recommended as it helps AI systems identify and extract your answers more reliably.
  • What's the difference between Content Quality and Answerability? expand_more
Content Quality evaluates whether your content is well-written, authoritative, and provides comprehensive coverage of your topic. Answerability specifically measures whether AI can pull out discrete, quotable answers from your content. You can have high-quality content that scores low on Answerability if it uses narrative prose without direct answer formats like FAQs, tables, or step-by-step instructions.
